About CMC for Lithium
Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is a water-soluble polymer derived from natural cellulose through chemical modification. It is used as a thickener in lithium-ion battery electrode manufacturing. Its core function is to improve electrode uniformity and stability by adjusting slurry viscosity and enhancing interparticle bonding, thereby optimizing battery performance. As a synthetic material additive, the molecular structure and performance parameters of CMC directly affect its application effectiveness.

| Application | Type | Viscosity | Degree of Substitution | Purity | Moisture | |
| Battery Grade | BVH | 1% Soln 1000-9000 | 0.89-0.94 | ≥99.5 | 5%-7% | |
PERFORMANCE
1.As a binder for batteries, CMC can be widely used in different types of electrode materials such as lithium batteries, natural graphite, mesophase carbon microspheres (MCMB), lithium titanate, tin-based silicon based negative material and lithium iron phosphate positive material.
2. Ensure that the electrode paste coating processing performance is good, the coating is complete and uniform at the same time, the battery capacity, cycle life and stability can be improved;
3. Effectively improve the overall performance of the electrode, ensure the contact between the active substance, the conductive agent and the collector fluid reach the same, improve the integrity of the electrode.
The role of CMC for batteries
Adhesive Effect: Firmly bonds active materials such as graphite and silicon to the conductive agent, preventing material detachment during charging and discharging and improving cycle life.
Dispersing Effect: Reduces the surface tension of non-polar materials such as graphite, allowing them to disperse uniformly in water and preventing aggregation.
Thickening and Anti-settling Effect: Increases slurry viscosity, preventing active materials from settling and ensuring coating uniformity.
Enhanced Electrochemical Performance:Possesses good ionic/electronic conductivity, promoting lithium-ion transport; its hydroxyl groups can form a hydrogen bond network, enhancing electrode structural stability.
FAQ
Q: Is it difficult to dissolve your CMC in batteries? Will it clump?
A: Absolutely not. Our CMC has excellent dissolving properties. Following the normal procedure, it's easy to mix evenly without forming small, hard-to-dissolve lumps, making production smoother.
Q: Battery production requires high stability. Is the quality of each batch of your products consistently consistent?
A: Please rest assured. Because we have our own factory, we strictly control everything from raw materials to production processes, ensuring that each batch of Battery adhesive CMC maintains a high degree of consistency in key properties such as viscosity and purity. Your next shipment will have the same effect, without frequent formula adjustments.
Q: We encounter problems with the slurry or coating during production. Can you provide technical support?
A: Of course! We not only sell products but also provide comprehensive after-sales service. If you encounter any problems in your application, our technicians will assist you in resolving them as soon as possible.
