CMC For Toothpaste

Category:

Product Introduction

CMC plays a crucial role in toothpaste. First, as a thickener, CMC significantly improves the texture of toothpaste, giving it a certain viscosity and a good framework, making it easier for users to control during use. Second, the suspending properties of CMC prevent the separation of solid components (such as abrasives) from the liquid components in toothpaste, ensuring the stability and uniformity of the toothpaste.

Product Details

Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), also known as sodium carboxymethyl cellulose salt, is an important water-soluble polymer compound. It is mainly produced by reacting cellulose with sodium hydroxide to form alkali cellulose, followed by carboxylation with monochloroacetic acid. CMC possesses excellent water solubility, thickening properties, suspending properties, and lubricating properties, and is widely used in various industrial fields.

CMC plays a crucial role in toothpaste. First, as a thickener, CMC significantly improves the texture of toothpaste, giving it a certain viscosity and a good framework, making it easier for users to control during use. Second, CMC's suspending properties prevent the separation of solid components (such as abrasives) from the liquid components, ensuring the stability and uniformity of the toothpaste. Furthermore, CMC has lubricating properties, reducing friction between the tooth surface and the toothbrush, protecting teeth and gums. Finally, CMC's moisturizing properties enhance the toothpaste's hydration, reducing discomfort caused by dryness and providing users with a better teeth-cleaning experience.

Application Type Viscosity Degree of Substitution Purity Moisture
Toothpaste Grade TH9 2% Soln 900-1200 0.92-1.0 ≥99.5 ≤7%
TH10 2% Soln 900-1200 0.95-1.0 ≥99.5 ≤7%
TH12 2% Soln 900-1200 ≥1.1 ≥99.5 ≤7%
9H 1% Soln 1200-4000 0.8-1.1 ≥99.5 ≤7%

The main functions of Toothpaste Grade CMC are:

① To give toothpaste an appropriate viscosity and consistency without feeling sticky, ensuring good flowability.
② To provide a framework for the toothpaste, allowing it to stay on the toothbrush without collapsing, resulting in good forming properties.
③ To make the toothpaste easily dispersed during brushing, exhibiting good diffusion properties.
④ To have good inherent stability, resisting biodegradation, maintaining stability during storage without layering, separating water, or affecting the toothpaste's smell or color, demonstrating good stability.
⑤ To make the toothpaste smooth and glossy, with evenly dispersed abrasive particles, preventing clumping and coarsening.
⑥ To have good compatibility with other components in toothpaste, especially active ingredients, exhibiting good formulation properties.

High Purity CMC Toothpaste Grade Requirements:

① Good viscosity and thixotropy.
② Easy to disperse and swell during toothpaste production, without clumping or agglomeration.
③ Good water solubility, easily combined with other materials in toothpaste.
④ Good enzyme resistance and salt tolerance, without degradation that would compromise toothpaste stability during its shelf life.
⑤ Good permeability for fragrances. Should not impart unpleasant odors or tastes to the toothpaste.
⑥ Should not affect the color of the toothpaste.
