- In detergents, CMC powder can be used as an anti-fouling redeposition agent, especially effective against hydrophobic synthetic fiber fabrics, showing significantly better anti-fouling redeposition effects than carboxymethyl cellulose.

- CMC natrium can be used in oil drilling to protect oil wells as a mud stabilizer and water-retaining agent, with a dosage of 2.3 tons per well for shallow wells and 5.6 tons per well for deep wells.

- In the textile industry, it is used as a sizing agent, a thickener for dyeing and printing pastes, and for textile printing and stiffening finishing. When used in sizing agents, it improves solubility and viscosity.

- Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) can be used as an anti-settling agent, emulsifier, dispersant, leveling agent, and binder in coatings. It enables the solids content of the coating to be evenly distributed in the solvent, preventing the coating from separating over a long period. It is also widely used in paints.

- Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose thickener is more effective than sodium gluconate in removing calcium ions as a flocculant. When used as a cation exchanger, its exchange capacity can reach 1.6 ml/g.

- CMC additives are used in the paper industry as paper sizing agents, significantly improving the dry and wet strength, oil resistance, ink absorption, and water resistance of paper.

- Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose additive is used as a water-soluble colloid in cosmetics and as a thickener in toothpaste, at a dosage of approximately 5%.

- CMC can also be used as a flocculant, chelating agent, emulsifier, thickener, water-retaining agent, sizing agent, and film-forming material.

How to Choose High-Quality CMC Products?

When faced with a wide variety of CMC products on the market, the following aspects can be used as reference standards:

✔ 1. Purity and Degree of Substitution (DS)
A DS of 0.6 to 1.2 is common. A higher DS often means better solubility and stability.

Food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade products require higher purity and safety standards.

✔ 2. Viscosity Grade
Viscosity ranges from tens to tens of thousands of mPa·s. The appropriate viscosity grade must be selected based on the specific application.

Industrial-grade products often use high- or medium-viscosity products, while food-grade products require adjustments based on the formulation.

✔ 3. Particle Size and Dissolution Rate
Fineer particle size dissolves faster. Instant-dissolving CMC is more suitable for instant beverages, cleaning products, and similar applications.

✔ 4. Application-Specific Models
There are specialized models available for different fields such as food, ceramics, petroleum, and pharmaceuticals. The appropriate model should be selected based on the intended use.

✔ 5. Stability and Batch Consistency Choosing a supplier with a quality management system and testing capabilities can ensure batch stability during long-term use.
